Book Review: "If We Were Villains" by M.L. Rio

This book is giving big "Please raise your hand if you were personal victimized by Theatre people" Energy
If We Were Villains is narrated by Oliver, a man just recently released from prison after serving a term the detective on the case refuses to believe he's committed. Now that that detective has left the force, Oliver agrees to tell the truth of what really happened. And so the tale goes back to 1997 where we observe a friend group/ cohort who are in their final year of Shakespeare Conservatory school, a school so tough that each year students are kicked out if they can't perform. On Stage and in real life it seems that crew follows the typical archetypes of a theatrical narrator: the hero, the polarizing leader, the villain, the seduction, etc. As we know from the present, their final year did not end as they hoped, but perhaps this retrospection can give the detective and the reader insight on the who what when where and why of it all.
This is M.L. Rio's first book and I think that this is quite a punch into the market. Highly recommend.
