Vibe Vault: that's not just Some Guy, that's My Girl

Good Evening, folks and welcome to Vibe Vault, Sometimes I Create Playlists. I read people and places and things well enough to curate music that fits the vibe. I just need to be motivated to do so.

that's not Some Guy, that's My Girl was inspired by a screenshot of a tweet with more or less the same vibe. I can't find the screenshot, but it read, "That's not some guy, that's my girlfriend". This  really stuck with me because I read it through a queer and transgressive lens. The declaration has a few meanings behind it:

  1. Hey you transphobic fuck that's my girlfriend respect her.
  2. Hey asshole my partner is whoever the fuck my partner wants to be, but I'm the man of the house
  3. My confident boyfriend is also my sissy (kink thing deserving of it's own deep dive) and she will be dressing up for me when I get home

And it is based on those interpretations, I created this playlist. There is a loose narrative here. The songs are the thoughts of the admirer about the object of their affection. There are peaks and valleys, but mostly inspired by songs of my youth. Having parents over the age sixty, experiencing the movie soundtracks of the 90's, these song choices make sense. While Kiss Me was on the radio constantly when  I was very young, I also was fond of Little Miss Sunshine(2006) and that famous choreo to Superfreak. The blend of oldies queered by my perspective with contemporary songs, such as Come over,  really gives insight on me as an extremely romantic person.

As you listen to the tracks you'll hear how the admirer goes from fawning over this cool dude to really appreciating their feminine expression quite nursing a burgeoning desire to spend the night with them in a totally wholesome way. I was delighted to end the playlist with Blushing because it ends with the sounds of someone shutting a door and walking away. I love songs that remind me of radio stories. You can picture the admirer and the admired parting ways after a powerful evening together.

Ruminating aside, here's the playlist. Thanks to capitalism, I cannot share sound files, but I really encourage you to listen to these songs wherever you like to listen to music. This was very fun to make, came together rather quickly, and is less than thirty-five minutes long. Something about a bite-sized playlist feels delicious to me. Let me know what you think.
